In this guide you will learn everything from a basic jab to the face all the way to moves and techniques not even listed in the game manual. Coupled within this guide are a few small quicktime videos that show numerous features of the game including how to time reversals/counters, a montage of different tag-team attacks, examples on what certain attacks look like (to better help you understand how they work), and more. This is all done as a suppliment to help you better yourself and to grasp some of the more indepth discussion and explanations. We hope you have fun learning with this guide, and in turn have fun playing against friends (or rivals) with your new found knowledge.

Unlockable: Photo Shoot mode
You must get 8,000 cash then go get the camera in the shop.

Unlockable: Sound Test in locker room
You must get 9,000 cash then go get the audio set in the shop.

Unlockable: Rowdy Reiko
Use Reiko Hinomoto, and play with her until she becomes the champion. Then,use Evil Rose and BEAT Reiko. Take the championship title from her. Then win the reward match against Rowdy Reiko.

Unlockable: Swimsuits
When you play as any default character in their swinsuits for several matches, the suits themselves will eventually become available for purchase. Theyll go for $9,000 for all the other characters.

Unlockable: Maid Costume
From the Locker Room, go to the photo shoot mode with all of the characters. It will unlock and become available in the shop under Edit Costume.

Unlockable: Alter Egos
Win the title any of the characters, then take it from her with another girl. A bonus match will unlock, and beat the girl again.

Hint – Popularity Is Everything
Increasing your popularity depends on your wrestler type. Good fighters (all on the top row) have blue popularity meters and they increase in popularity as you engage in (and win) normal matches. Bad fighters (all on the bottom row) have red popularity meters and do not experience changes in popularity in normal (pinfall) matches. Bad fighters increase their popularity in the Street Fight mode (next to the Locker Room icon). Try also performing at least one Killer Move, one Lethal Move, and one Humiliation (not possible in Street Fight), for “variety”.

Unlock Swimwear
Swimwear can be unlocked in the shop by winning a few normal matches while your fighter is wearing her swimwear costume (one slot left of the default costume). Unlock the swimwear option by playing (and winning) at least one Queens Match.

You cannot purchase the swimwear of your fighter (you already have it), but it will be available for the other fighters in their shop.

Hint – Costume Clues
The shops locked costumes can be unlocked by fulfilling the various conditions hinted at in the text box. Some conditions include holding onto titles, winning over certain opponents, or simply spending time in other modes.

Hint – Pump Her Up
Partaking in any match increases your fighters ability to be customized in body (appearance) and muscle (performance). Increasing muscle stats will increase the damage you do, and reduce the damage taken. Only the normal fighter may be customized; superstars are played as designed. Strikes and throws increase stats. Being subject to submissions reduce them.

Hint – Girl Partner. Huhuhuhuhu
When selecting a match partner, characters with histories (good or bad) will have something to say on the character select menu when you select the portrait but before you you confirm superstar status and color. Use the pre-match tag screens (exhibition is best) to determine the viability of the coupling. Wrestlers shaking their heads are a bad sign.

If youre in need of real help, select any two characters and enter an exhibition Tag Match (or any regular Tag Match, although these are not always available). On the VS screen, there is an icon corresponding to each pairing. The halo around the icon signifies a good match-up, whereas a lightning bolt signifies a bad match-up (sparks between the two). Neutral match-ups have no outstanding symbol.

When you do a tag match and choose two members of the NWO, a third member will walk with them in the entrance movie; however, you do not get to use the third member, as they dont appear during the match.

Cheat mode

Shoot down 1000 ducks to unlock the “Cheat Menu” button at the lake menu. Click on the button to access the following options after they have been unlocked.

Unlimited ammunition

Enter the cheat menu. The “Infinite Ammo” option is already available by default.

No ducks missed

Enter the cheat menu. The “No Missed Ducks” option is already available by default.

Slower ducks

Shoot down 250 ducks in Evening Lake. The “Slower Speed” option is now unlocked in the cheat menu.

Space Shooter mini-game

Shoot down 250 ducks in Dark Lake. The “Space Shooter” option is now unlocked in the cheat menu.

Challenge mode

Get a ranking on Legend. The “Challenge Mode” option is now unlocked in the cheat menu.

Unlock all characters. Remove the Profile window at the Character Profile screen. Press A + B + X + Y to reset the game. Press X + Start at the demo. Return to the Character Profile screen.

Successfully complete all missions in Mission Battle mode for the gold title screen. Unlock Inferno and purchase all 338 Art Cards for the monochrome title screen.

Unlockable: Alternate costumes
Press Y when choosing a character at the character selection screen.

Unlockable: Fight as Inferno
Unlock all hidden characters and successfully complete Arcade mode using Xianguhas third costume (the third costume is a bonus revealed after purchasing an Art Card in Mission Battle mode).

Unlockable: Arcade mode (Japanese version)
Successfully complete the game with every character (including hidden ones).

Unlockable: Secret Swamp Mission
On the mission select screen, go to the western most map. Move your pointer over the middle of the upper right area of the screen (somewhere around Poland). When you pass over the secret mission, you will hear the “zip” noise you hear when you pass over any other mission; you will not be able to see it when you land on the location.

There are 2 missions in this location. Each stage has a random combination of conditions from the previous missions.

Unlockable: Secret Dojo Mission
On the mission select screen, go to the eastern most map. Move your pointer over the Korea area. When you pass over the secret mission, you will hear the “zip” noise you hear when you pass over any other mission; you will not be able to see it when you land on the location.

There are 5 missions in this location. Each stage has a random combination of conditions from the previous missions.

Hint: Remove window on Character Profile screen
Press A + B at the Character Profile screen.

Hint: Copy Save Game File
To copy the save game file for Soul Calibur from the original VMU to another, boot the game with the save you want copied and then enter a battle with any character. When the battle begins pause and then swap the original VMU with the destination VMU and then quit out from the pause menu. Upon quitting a new save will be written to the same VMU slot with the original intact on the original VMU. This may work with many games as SEGA made VMUs hot-swappable.

Hint: Move Camera
When viewing the replay after a fight, press the (B) button to switch which character the game camera is focusing on. You can then pan around and zoom in or out on the character that just lost.

Hint: Slow and Fast Replay
To slow down the action during replay simply hold Left trigger. To speed it up, hold right trigger.

Note: if the camera is moving while either trigger is held, it will stay in motion until trigger is released. This is best displayed in practice mode.

Hint: Victory Poses
Each character has three different victory poses. To see each one, after winning a battle, press X, Y, or B during the replay to select one of the three poses.

Hovering (glitch)
This is a glitch, but to hover you must go to practice mode.
1. Select Cervantes
2. Kilik as CPU
3. Use Cervantes catch move (upper cut him and press down and Y—doesnt apply if you change controller settings)
4. Right before Kilik hits the ground, pause the game.
5. Go to instant replay.
6. As Cervantes finishes his move, press start to return to normal fighting sequence.
7. When you return to the fight, Kilik will be in the air flying and you can…CAN…..control him.

Easter Egg: Exhibition Songs
This isnt a code, but more of a cool trick that works with the game. Youll have to get a CD or MP3 of the songs mentioned, but if you play them with certain characters, the timing works out so it looks like the characters movements are going with the music. Below is a list of characters, the songs that work with them, and when to start them. Remember to put the exhibition on Loop A.

Taki – “Boom” by Bloodhound Gang, start the second you see her.

Taki – “Yoda” by Weird Al. Probably one of the better ones. Unsure of the starting time, try when you see Taki start. Youll know if you got it right.

Mitsurugi – Antonio Bandaras song at the begining of “Desperado”. Start it when he starts to draw his sword.

Mitsurugi – “Asleep at the Wheel” by Bloodhound Gang. Start the song, and push A on Mitsurugi after the track has been playing for 3 seconds (while youre hearing the word “And”)

Kilik – “Now Youre a man,” by DVDA, start it as soon as you see Kilik.

Xianghua – “Walking On The Sun” by Smash Mouth, start when she starts. This one works the best out of them all. Almost every movement times out perfectly.

Astaroth – “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life,” by Monty Python. Start when he starts. The chorus should start when he starts running in a circle.

Sophitia – “Alabamba Song,” by The Doors. Starting this one is awkward. It begins while her exhibition is loading. Trial and error. Youll know when you have it.

Camera control during ending frame:

Hold A: Zoom in
Hold B: Zoom out
Up: Top view
Down: Horizontal view
Left: Spin counter-clockwise
Right: Spin clockwise
Get last weapon in Edge Master mode:
Defeat SoulEdge and let the ending sequence complete. After returning to the map screen, press K and choose Move. The CPU will select a destination. If you lose the match, press K again and allow the CPU to select the country. The CPU will always select the location of the last weapon.
Alternate costumes:

A: Default
B: Alternate default color
A + G: Guard
B + G: Alternate guard color
K: New Soul Blade
Obtain all of Sophitias weapons in Edge Master mode to choose her armor-less hidden costume from her ending. Obtain all 70 weapons in Edge Master mode to choose Sophitias hidden swimsuit costume from her hidden ending.

Fight as Soul Edge:

Enter ALL as a name. Alternatively, complete the game with all the regular characters on any difficulty setting or play the game a total of twenty cumulative hours.

Fight as Siegfried!, Sophitia!, and Sophitia!!:

Win all eight weapons for both Siegfried and Sophitia to play as Siegfried! and Sophitia!. They are alternate characters that have different costumes. Sophitias third version, Sophitia!!, will be accessible after obtaining all 70 weapons in Edge Master mode.
Fight as Han Myong:

Perform Hwangs followed by Seung Mi Nas alternate endings.
Alternate title screen:

Complete the game with all ten characters. The title screen will change to one that shows all of the characters.
Alternate opening voice:

When the game is boots, sometimes the voice that says “Namco” at the start will be Seung Minas instead of the deep voiced announcer. Because of her accent, she will say “Namico”. Note: This may only work on the PAL version of the game.

Alternate endings:

Enter the following sequences during the ending when the black lines at the top and bottom of the screen disappear. Cervantes: Press B.
Hwang: Press A.
Li Long: Press A, B repeatedly to make him stand up.
Mitsurugi: Beat Tanegashima by pressing Left or Right to avoid the bullet. Then run forward and attack with B before he reloads.
Rock: Press B.
Seung Mina: Quickly press Down, Up to make her dodge.
Siegfried: Press B.
Sophitia: Move Right.
Taki: Press G to guard Soul Edges attack.
Voldo: Quickly press Up, Ddown repeatedly until Soul Edge breaks.

All hidden games:

Highlight the “Start” option at the title screen, then press L2, R2, R1, L1, Select, Start to unlock Elevator Action, Front Line, Gun Frontier, New Zealand Story, and Qix.

Elevator Action:

Accumulate at least one hour of game play in Cadash, Arabian Magic, Violence Fight, Rastan Saga 2, The Legend Of Kage, Chackn Pop, Mizubaku Daibouken, and Wild Western.

Front Line:

Accumulate a total of five hours game play.

Gun Frontier:

Accumulate at least one hour of game play in Insector X, Gekirindan, G-Darius, Raystorm, Space Invaders, Akkanvader, and Space Invaders Part 2.

New Zealand Story:

Play all default games at least one time.

Qix:

Accumulate at least one hour of game play in Crazy Balloon, Puzzle Bobble 2, Raimais, Hat Trick Hero, and Balloon Bomber.

All hidden games:

Press L1, R1, R2, L2, Select, Start at the title screen to unlock Bubble Bobble, Cameltry, Kiki Kaikai, Metal Black, and Syvalion.

Bubble Bobble:

Play all default games at least one time.

Cameltry:

Accumulate at least one hour of game play in Lunar Rescue, Ah Eikou no Koshien, Alpine Ski, Cleopatra Fortune, Puchi Carat, and Flipull.

Kiki Kaikai:

Accumulate a total of five hours game play.

Metal Black:

Accumulate at least one hour of game play in Space Invaders Color, Space Invaders DX, Darius Gaiden, Grid Seeker, and Majestic Twelve.

Syvalion:

Accumulate at least one hour of game play in Elevator Action Returns, Kuri Kinton, Jigoku Meguri, Don Doko Don, Rastan Saga, Fairyland Story, Pulirula, Lightbringer, and Runark.

Cheats: Sonic 2
Debug Mode

To enter Debug Mode, play these sounds from the level select screen: 1, 9, 9, 2, 1, 1, 2, 4. Press Start and hold A. To start debugging, press B, then you can select any sprite in that level and put it on the screen. To select a different sprite, press A, and to place it on the screen, press C. Note that sprite selection is different from Zone to Zone. Also, instead of displaying the time elapsed, it displays the number of sprites currently on the screen.
Level Select

From the main screen, select Options. Select Sound Select and play sounds 19, 65, 9, 17, then push C. Press Start to return to the main screen, and when Sonic and Tails appear, hold A and press Start.

Cheat: Sonic 1 Level Select
To select any level in Sonic The Hedgehog, press UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, you will hear a chime, then hold SQUARE and hit START. Do this on the title screen after the Sega logo screen and ANY level in the game will be open to select!

Unlockable: Games
Blue Sphere game
Play Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic 3D Blast 20 times each, exit to the title screen and then go back into the game select screen and Blue Sphere will now be unlocked. Flicky

Start a “no save” game. In Angel Island Act I, swing on a vine. Press LEFT, LEFT, LEFT, RIGHT, RIGHT, RIGHT, UP, UP, UP.

Cheat: Stop Time in Sonic 2
Pause the game and hold A for the rest of the stage to play without time passing. Press X to jump and spin dash while holding A. You will move without time passing, but the enimies will still move. To stop the game just relese A.

Sonic 1: Debug Mode & Level Select
To unlock Debug Mode for Sonic 1, press UP, X, DOWN, X, LEFT, X, RIGHT, UP, X, DOWN, X, LEFT, X, RIGHT, X. After this, hold B and press Start. Once in the game, press A for Debug Mode.

At the main title screen, press UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT. Hold B to go to the Level Select and Sound Test screen.

Sonic 2: Level Select & Debug Mode
To select levels in Sonic 2, go into Sound Test Mode. Play these sounds: 19, 65, 09, 17. Hold X and press Start. Once you get to the title screen, hold B and press Start to see the Stage Select feature.

To get Debug Mode, play songs 01, 09, 09, 02, 01, 01, 02, then 04. Hold B while selecting a stage by pressing Start to get Debug Mode.

Sonic 3: Level Select & Debug Mode
To get to the Level Select in Sonic 3, press UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, UP, UP, UP after you hear SEGA, but before the main screen shows. (Correction by Don Long

Once you enter the code correctly, Level Select and Sound Test will appear on the title screen when you press Up. To get Debug Mode to work, hold B and select a stage with Start.

Sonic 3: Unlock Secret Stage
Enter the Level Select code, then go to Sound Test. Play the following sounds: 01, 03, 05, 07. Move to Special Stage 2. Once its highlighted, hold down B and press Start.

Sonic 2: Play Super Sonic
To play as Super Sonic, use the Level Select code. On that screen, play songs 04, 01, 02, and 06. When you start a stage, collect 50 rings, then jump. Youll be Super Sonic.

Sonic 1: Version Select
The default version of Sonic 1 is Japanese Version 1. To play the U.S. Version, press UP, Z, DOWN, Z, LEFT, Z, RIGHT, Z on the Sonic 1 info screen.

Play as Gotenks

Beat the 1 player mode 9 times with regular Trunks on the hardest difficult settings. After that in any mode push select 9 times on regular Trunks then Gotenks will be available a pickable character.
NOTE: save after getting him or else you will have to do it all over again.

Bonus Fighter

At the title screen (with Goku on the right and sound test mode on the left) press right, left down, up, right, left, down, up. Start the game and you should have six more fighters.

Wire Frame

Hold SELECT while choosing a fighter.

Alternate Costumes

To wear alternate costumes, go to Training Mode or 2P Mode and simultaneously push SQUARE, X, CIRCLE while selecting a character.

Extra level

First beat the game with Gokou then after the credits at the title screen press triangle 5 times and X 9 times then you should get Gokou4. After that go to 2p mode and pick Gokou4 as 2p and pick whoever you want as 1p.

Extra characters

Press select and square while choosing fighter.

Play as Gogeta

To play as Gogeta you must beat the game on hard 20 times. After that, Gogeta will be on the character select screen.

Play in Super Bebi’s level

First beat the game with Gokou then after the credits, at the title screen press triangle 5 times and X 9 times then you should get Gokou 4. After that go to 2p mode and pick Gokou 4 as 2p and pick whoever you want as 1 player.

Play as Goku 4

At the title screen (with Goku on the right and the instructions for entering the sound test mode) press Right, Left, Down, Up, Right, Left, Down, Up. You should hear a tone. Next, press Triangle FIVE times, then press X 9 times. If done correctly another tone will sound and the menu screen will now have a cool picture of Super Saiyajin Level 4 Goku.

Self-Destruct

While playing as Vegeta or Majin Boo, press forward, back, down, up and the fireball button (default is triangle) to perform a self-destruct. This does massive damage to your opponent if it connects and takes away about half of your Ki power.

At the character select screen press Select, Square

Be Super Saiyanjin 4 Son Goku

After doing the ‘Extra Fighters’ code above go to the title screen and press Triangle (10 times), Square (9 times). In the Japanese version press Triangle (5 times), X (9 times)

Using secret powers

When playing as Gokuh (Normal DBGT), Vegeta (SSJ), Majin Boo and Gogeta or Vegetto, quickly press Forward, Back, Down, Up, Triangle (which releases the powers) during a match.

Power Struggle

When your opponent does the fireball press triangle , circle, and square repeatedly fast. then right in the middle of your opponent’s fireball you will do the fireball back and as you are doing the fireball, press square alot of times and you will hit your opponent or he will still hit you if you do not press fast enough.

Goku’s Spirit Bomb

While playing as the regular Goku only press the following buttons press forward, back, down, up and the fireball button (default is triangle).

Power Struggle

When your opponent does the fireball press triangle , circle, and square repeatedly fast. then right in the middle of your opponent’s fireball you will do the fireball back and as you are doing the fireball, press square alot of times and you will hit your opponent or he will still hit you if you do not press fast enough.

Play as Ubuu

First, put the skill level on hard. Get Super Saiya-Jin Goku Level 4 and the rest of the hidden characters. This includes Gotenks. Note — You cannot lose a match and you need near perfect when getting all the hidden characters. Once done, beat the game on hard 7 times with Majin Buu a.k.a. Original Buu. You need a near perfect doing this and no losses. After that’s done, beat the game 15 times on hard with Pan. You also need a near perfect and no losses here too. Beat the game 6 more times with Chibi Goku with a near perfect and no losses. 8 more times with SSJ to the 4th power Goku. You also need no losses and near perfect every match here too. Finally beat the game 3 times on easy with Majin Buu. On the third time you need to continue 4 times by losing to your first round opponent. And get a perfect on every one after that. Except for when you fight Super Baby. You need to half your life bar at 1/4 the way, and finish Super Baby with a strong ‘Ki Attack’ (or in other words —- a strong knockout ki blast.’ i.e. Goku’s “Chou Kamehameha,” but for Buu! After that, go to the character selection screen and highlight Majin Buu. When you do that, press the select button 15 times and Ubuu will appear.

Unlimited power/health

At title screen, press Triangle, X, Triangle, X, Triangle, Triangle, Square, Square. You will hear a tone confirming that you did it right

3D dodging

When an enemy uses a large attack at close range just hold R1 and press down, doesn’t matter what side you are on you will quickly move to the Right and Completly dodge the attack, and this also leaves the Oppenent open.

Play as SS4 Goku

At the title screen, press Triangle 5 times and Square 9 times.

All characters (Japanese Game)

When you see Goku on the “Press Start” screen, press Right, Left, Down, Up,Right, Left, Down, Up to get all of the Super Saiyins; Super Saiyin Goku, Super Saiyin Goku, Super Saiyin 2 Goku, Little Goku, Super Saiyin Little Goku, Super Saiyin 2 Trunks, Super Saiyin 2 Trunks, Super Saiyin Veggeto. Then once that is done on the “Press Start” screen, press Triangle 9 times and X 11 times to get Super Saiyin 4 Goku. NOTE: These two codes must be done everytime the game is turned on.

How to do a Meteo Smash

Go to any mode and pic any character. Walk up to the opponent and keep holding foward. While holding foward tap R2, then repeadedly press Triangle and Square, still hold forward. Your character will now do a punching combo, if you keep holding foward and pressing Triangle a Square you can connect the combo into another one. You can also press Triangle and Circle for a kicking combo and, Triangle and X to connect a projectile attack into it.

NOTE: Everyone has 3 Meteo Smashes there all the same but performed differently. But Goku and Super Saiyin Goku have the same one because there the same person.

NOTE: You can also counter a Meteo Smash by pressing forward and any 2 bottons. EXAMPLE: If Goku does a punching Meteo Smash on Kid Buu, Kid Buu can do it back by pressing the Meteo Smash buttons.

Pans Special Punch

(Note: I have only used this cheat in the Australian Version and not Japanese Version) Choose any mode you like just as long as your character is PAN, Go up to opponent and repeatedly press Down, Back + Square constantly. Pan will then start to have a KAI ball in front of her and whenever you hit an opponent with the KAI, they should die much more faster.
